A heartfelt memoir. This is a very poignant story about generational trauma and the effects it had on the author’s life. This memoir was very touching and had me crying tears of sadness and empathy and also of joy. Throughout all of the hardships she endured she still remained a kind, thoughtful, caring person. If you are looking for a story that holds nothing back of the abuses she went through but also has hope and kindness you should pick it up.

A fascinating portrayal of emotional trauma, depression, and anxiety. If you have ever dealt with severe depression and/or anxiety, you should consider this memoir required reading. It’s a riveting story about a life racked with loss, emotional and mental abuse, and the indomitable strength of someone who fought to rise above it all. It is also an invaluable read for those currently struggling with similar mental health issues, as it assures you that you are not alone, and you can take back control from these issues instead of letting them control you. Incredibly sad (I teared up a few times), but also extremely inspiring. Very highly recommended!

An honest look at emotional trauma. I am so impressed with the honesty and personal accountability in her story. It was a thoughtful remembrance of how damaging secrets and self preservation can be. Coming from the few people that children rely on for assurance and safety, these parents and other adults who unwittingly sacrifice the well being of little ones well into adulthood for their wants and needs. We are stronger for it, but the pain and loss of self confidence never really are fully recovered. I thought the author did a great job of laying it out bare for everyone without sounding like she is the victim of her situation in the end. Her “inheritance” of loving strength shines bright.
